The Future Awards 2012 Full Nominees List

Ladi Delano Toju Foyeh

As always, it’s the most anticipated list this year! The Future Awards, described by the World Bank as “The Nobel Prize for Young Africans”, after unveiling its spectacular Young Person of the Year nominees earlier this week, has now released the full Nominees List for all 21 categories.

Voting begins immediately! The voting numbers are 33120 (All networks) for Nigeria, and 1523 (Expresso & MTN), 1910 (Airtel) for Ghana. You can also vote on www.ynaija.com/thefutureawards. According to the organisers, voting takes only 50% of the second stage of judging, so winners are not selected by voting popularity – there is a 4-stage judging process involving a Board of Judges and an Independent Audit Committee. There is also a one-week period for members of the public to make complaints about any of the nominees to the awards Central Working Committee (CWC). Please send complaints to info@thefuturenigeria.com.
All the nominees will be celebrated at an invitation-only media and VIP Nominees Reception on Saturday, 4 August 2012 – where they will also be inducted into the elite The Future Alumni Network. The Reception is also a yearly charity fundraiser – and this year, the event will be raising money for the Down Syndrome Association of Nigeria, a pioneering advocacy platform for children with Down’s Syndrome.

“Though there were remarkable difficulties in getting young leaders and entrepreneurs closer to 20 than 30, but we are excited to have yet arrived at an inspiring run-down of young Nigerians,” said Chude Jideonwo, who is executive director of The Future Project. “We gave ourselves the tough task of finding innovators, entrepreneurs and the kinds of young people you don’t always hear about, which is the essence of The Future Awards and we are as always, incredibly proud of the nominees we have.”

Profiles of the nominees will be published on the official website www.thefuturenigeria.com and on www.facebook.com/thefutureawards by July 31, 2012. Let the race begin!

Bomb discovered and defused at a hotel in Ikeja this morning

What the anti-bomb squad brought out from the hotel this morning, the black bag with the pillow
Got quite a number of calls from people around the area this morning about a bomb that was discovered in a hotel in Ikeja. According to eyewitnesses, a bomb was found in a room at Reliance Hotel located on Emina Crescent off Amore Crescent, off Toyin street, Ikeja.

The hotel shares same fence with St Leo Catholic Church and is directly opposite Assemblies of God church. According to hotel sources, three guys slept in the hotel last night and checked out this morning. Housekeeper went to clean the room and discovered the 'surprise'. The hotel alerted the anti-bomb squad. The streets surrounding the area was condoned off for hours as the anti-bomb squad worked to detonate the bomb. When they did, they brought the bomb out with a pillow and left it on the streets for a few minutes, then left with it in their blue vehicle. A LIB reader took that photo and sent to me. Hopefully the police will say something about this incident.

Is Wizkid changing his name?

The music star turned 23 yesterday and it seems he no longer wants to be referred to as a kid. He Tweeted:

Nigerians are the Most Sexually Satisfied in the World, Japanese the Least, and the Greek have the Most Sex – Durex

After releasing a report that Nigerian women are the most unfaithful in the world, condom manufacturer, Durex, has again released another report on the sexual status of Nigerians. This time, they are saying that Nigerians are the most sexually satisfied in the world.

In a statement on Tuesday, Durex said the online study questioned more than 26,000 respondents across 26 countries about every aspect of their sex lives in a bid to chart comprehensively “what constitutes intimate well-being.”

The survey put Nigeria in pole position at 67 percent, followed by Mexico at 63 percent, India at 61 percent and Poland at 54 per cent.

The least sexually satisfied people in the world, according to the survey, are the Japanese, with 15 percent of respondents from that country giving their love lives a thumbs-up.

“On average, South Africans have sex 120 times a year — considerably more than the global average of 103,” the statement read. “It is the sexed-up Greeks who have the most sex, at 164 times a year; with Brazil next (145), followed by Poland and Russia (both 143). The Japanese are the least sexually active nation, being intimate just 48 times a year.”

The survey also measured average time of sexual intercourse among respondents. “The Nigerians take the longest time over sex, at 24 minutes per session, while Indians have the quickest sex, at 13 minutes,” it stated.

If 26,000 respondents across 26 countries were questioned, then probably only about 1000 Nigerians were used to get this statistics. This seems small compared to the millions of Nigerians who are sexually active.

However, what are your thoughts? Do you think Nigerians are the most sexually satisfied in the world? Do you think we take the longest time over sex at 24 minutes per session *cough*?

Please share your thoughts.
