From the Sahara Desert to Lagos! Photos of Dr Newton Jibunoh, Kelechi Amadi-Obi & Chimamanda Adichie at the “Whispers from the Sahara” Auction

On the eve of Wednesday 29th August 2012, art collectors, enthusiasts, heads of corporate organizations and members of the press gathered at DIDI Museum, 175 Akin Adesola Street,Victoria Island, Lagos for the Whispers from the Sahara auction.
The event which was an evening of  sophistication and enlightenment, kicked off with a bang. As attendees including award winning author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Nigerian arts patron, Otunba Adekunle Ojora and Udo Okonjo, who heads Fine & Country- the company that supported the event, sipped on refreshing cocktails, the amiable auctioneer Kola and Soni Irabor went straight to the order of the day.
The exhibiting artist, ace Nigerian photographer, Kelechi Amadi-Obi, who took over 5000 photos while on the last desert expedition across the Sahara Desert in the company of renowned Desert Warrior and one of Nigeria’s foremost environmentalist, Dr Newton Jibunoh, displayed 15 of his “Whispers from the Sahara” shots. They were auctioned off between the price range of N 100,000 and N 750,000.
During the auction, Dr Newton Jibunoh gave a brief explanation about each work of art and the reasons for the captions. BN was on the scene at the event and we have all the photos.
